Ziaudden Yousafzai
Malala's father, Ziaudden Yousafzai, was a teacher of Khushal school i Pakistan. He was also a poet and speaker, and a proud father from Malala's first day of birth.
When Ziaudden was a child, he lived in a small town with a huge family. He had five sisters and one older brother. But unfortunatly Ziaudden couldn't speak very well, he stuttered. His own father was annoyed about this and wanted him to speak normally like everybody else. Ziaudden's family tried everything to make him stop stuttering but nothing worked. Ziaudden's father, Malala's grandfather, was famous for giving speeches. When Ziaudden was 13, his father asked him to give a speech in front of a crowd. The young boy was terrified. However, when he began speaking, he did not stutter. In fact, his words flowed from his lips beautifully. His father finally began to feel proud of his son. From that day on, Ziaudden entered in every speech competition that he could.
As Ziaudden was growing up, he dreamed of owning a school and being a school teacher. However, his father had different plans for his son, and that was for him to be a doctor. But as time grew on Ziaudden's wish was granted, and he became a school teacher at last.
In Mingora, when a woman has a child, and it's a boy, her family and her spouse's family often celebrate by having parties. However, when when a women in Mingora has a child, and it's a girl, the day is thought to be a day of woe and sadness, with no celebration. But Ziaudden disagreed. When he first saw his baby girl, he fell in love, and immediately named her Malala. Ziaudden believed in equality, and that all children are equal, girl or boy. It made no difference to him.
